There are many types of cameras you can use for your live streams, from smartphones, built-in laptop cameras, external computer cameras, to high quality standalone cameras.
The following factors contribute to the overall increased quality of a good webcam for your broadcast:
High-Def vs Ultra HD: Full HD 1080p or 4K if not, then 720p will be ok
The frame rate of at least 30fps
Proper wide field of view
HD stereo audio performance
Automatic light correction
Autofocus / Human tracking if needed
Support the operating system of your device
Plug and play, easy to use
A 1080p webcam is always better than a 720p one, and Cherry.tv can handle this as well as the 4k HD resolution cameras that some of our models already use.
The higher the frame rate, the better, so 30 fps is the minimum you need. If you have a higher frame rate, make sure you can change it if you have problems with the picture quality.
Most laptops have a built-in camera, but make sure it has the minimum settings you need. Most will have 720fps, but more are being sold with higher fps.
Remember that standalone cameras will give you better picture quality and more options for the set up your broadcast. They will have a higher resolution, a faster frame rate and options such as widescreen and human tracking.
The standalone cameras will also have a better built-in microphone than those found on laptops, as well as the ability to balance the lights and colors in shot. Addition microphones can be added as well as lights, if required.
Whatever you use, try to have the best equipment you can afford.
